A resource for winter maintenance decision makers
LINDENWOOD (IL) – March 2019 – Aebi Schmidt Group, maker of Schmidt technologically and environmentally advanced winter maintenance equipment for government, municipal and airport fleets, introduces the Schmidt Stratos smart spreader to North America. Advanced technology optimizes salt usage and provides sophisticated software so fleets can operate more efficiently, consistently and safely.
Since it was first introduced in Europe, the Stratos has set new standards in precision placement, consistent dosing, versatile spread patterns and route pre-programming. That proven technology is now available to help optimize North American winter maintenance programs.
A premium application system features advanced engineering and design to spread perfectly homogenous pre-wet salt at the optimum salt/brine ratio of 70:30 in symmetrical or asymmetrical patterns. A fully integrated in-cab control panel adjusts the chute to provide variable spreading patterns, and operators can choose from one, two or three lanes of simultaneous coverage of evenly dosed salt as a result of an innovative swivel disc. Unlike most other spreaders currently on the market, the Schmidt Stratos maintains spreading accuracy even at high speeds. The unit’s optimal pre-wet mixture ensures high adhesion to the road surface and minimizes salt consumption.
Advanced telematics separate the Schmidt Stratos from most other spreaders currently found in North America. Its ThermoLogic dosing system precisely adapts the amount of salt to changing road and weather conditions. As the road surface temperature drops, more salt is applied. The state-of-the-art sensor continually monitors the temperature of the road surface and transmits it to the closed loop control system to respond within a split second.
The optional WinterLogic EXPERT desktop application stores and organizes data from every de-icing operation ever performed to create reports and statistics, planning guidelines and efficiency analyses to optimize fleet performance and maintenance schedules. This cloud-based application extracts information directly from the custom controller and feeds into a central operating system.
“The combination of advanced features on the Schmidt Stratos takes smart salt spreading technology to a whole new level,” says Pete Robison, vice president of marketing for Aebi Schmidt North America. “It represents the gold standard of performance throughout Europe, and we are excited to now make this technology package available in North America.”
Built to endure the harshest conditions and provide a long, reliable service life, the Schmidt Stratos features a durable powder coated frame and hopper along with components made of stainless steel or corrosion-resistant, high-quality polypropylene. The leg stand is durable enough to accommodate the loading or unloading of a hopper that’s still full of salt, eliminating the need to first empty the unit. An innovative kick back spinner design of the rear of the hopper provides added protection when backing up so that the spinner is not damaged upon contact.
A number of built-in safety features also differentiate the Stratos from the competition, including a safety sensor on the spreading disc that automatically stops the spreading process upon the smallest change of angle. The low-profile hopper also allows for better rear visibility.
“The Schmidt Stratos stands alone with its total value proposition, offering industry-leading technology at a competitive price point,” added Robison. “It is designed and priced for those municipalities that may already be employing some type of smart salt spreading technology but now want the addition of advanced telematics to optimize overall fleet efficiencies and route mapping.”
The Schmidt Stratos is available with conveyor belt.
